As I've mentioned before, I don't have any tattoos of my own, mainly because I could never think of any one thing that I liked enough to have put permanently on my body. However, if I did have to chose something, I'm pretty sure that it would have been something Disney. Of course with so many characters and icons to choose from, I still don't think I could narrow things down to one choice. And while a quick search of the internet will come up with thousands of possible designs, how do you choose just one? So for now, I guess I'm resigned to simply admiring the artwork with which other people have chosen to adorn their bodies. Tattoos are marvelous and unique forms of art expressing important meanings to you. However, the meaning can be lost if you end up disliking or regretting the tattoo. This is the case for many tattoo enthusiasts who jumps into one without putting in much thought. More than likely, they will experience all kinds of tattoo regrets such as bad quality tattoos, tattooing too young, or choosing a bad location on their body for a tattoo. But these examples and many others can be prevented if you slow down and think, hence the saying, "Think before you ink." While you put that quote into action, make sure you steer clear from the following three situations to avoid any possible tattoo regrets.

1. Winging a tattoo.
Winging a tattoo is similar to getting a tattoo on an impulse. The action of winging a tattoo is when you request a piece without bringing along a reference picture. That means the interpretation of the design is based solely on the artist's discretion. When the tattoo is completed, it will have little or no significance to you. Additionally, when there is no reference picture to base your design on, some artists like to freehand the tattoo without the use of a stencil. This can lead to a disastrous outcome because the outline is the most important part of a tattoo. If the outline is slightly off, the tattoo will appear distorted and there is little the artist can do to remedy the situation. Therefore, you must be prepared with a design in hand and artist chosen in advance.

2. Tattoos done on a dare
This regret should be obvious but regardless of how simple this concept is, it is still constantly reoccurring. Tattoos require a lot of thought as well as money. In fact, some people spend years to decide on the right tattoo. If you get pressured by your peers to get one, it will become the biggest regret of your lifetime. Never let anyone force you into getting something you are not ready for. Tattoos are permanent and can affect you greatly later on in life.

3. Cartoons or video-game characters
Although I can't speak for everyone on this subject, but a cartoon character tattoo is the worse type of tattoo you can get by far. The only positive outcome from these tattoos is if it symbolized your childhood memories in relation to the character. However, there are more negative consequences than positive which means there will be a high chance of tattoo regrets waiting to happen. Cartoons are usually associated with children and teenagers so you will be perceived as childish by the public. Also while you age and mature, cartoon characters will become less appealing to you and having one on your body will be extremely distasteful to you.

It will be harder to turn a new leaf because it will difficult to adapt with excessive tattoos. Also the tattoos will serve as a reminder of their rough life behind bars.

3. Tattooing while drunk

Choosing to get tattooed while drunk is extremely risky because the outcome of the tattoo is based on chance. There are incidents where tattoos completed were better than expected but there are also horror stories of the exact opposite. To avoid this common tattoo regret, do not consume alcohol before a tattoo session for two reasons. The first and more obvious reason is because high levels of alcohol in your system inhibit your brain to make rational decisions. You might want a dragon tattooed on your back but inadvertently request a pink bunny on your neck. Secondly, alcohol thins out your blood which will lead to profuse bleeding once the tattooing commences. For this reason, most tattoo shops refuse to tattoo drunks anyways. But for your safety and to avoid possible tattoo regrets, make sure your system is free of alcohol for at least 24 hours before your tattoo session.
